When you are on the road in an RV, you do not always have access to locations that have electricity you can plug into to. That is when having solar is almost a must. Solar gives you the freedom of the road so you can travel and stop almost anywhere your heart desires.
In the setup we are showing, there are 2 solar panels at 100 watts apiece. The units at the time cost about 140.00 apiece. The setup is run by a 30 amp charge controller located in the coach. The two panels supply more than enough power to run all the lights and several fans in the coach with power to spare. There is even enough power to run the water pump.
using solar power not only saves you money but it is also good for the environment. You also save wear and tear on your generator as you will not need to use it as much. In addition, you save on carbon emissions and the expense of filling the generator with gasoline.
You can get larger systems if you have the need for it. Just remember that the more power you want, the more it is going to cost. If you live in your RV fulltime, getting the larger system might be well worth the extra money it will cost.
During the hot summer months, just running the fans will not be enough to keep you cool so you will need shore power during those months. During the Fall and Spring months, it will be another story. The weather will be beautiful and you can save a lot of money by utilizing your solar set up.
Some folks will be able to set this up themselves but if you are not familiar with installing solar systems, it is best to have an RV repair company do it for you. Having it professionally installed can save you a lot of headaches afterward.
